# Export and import

For moving Veles data between orgs that are not connected, or keeping a backup. Everything travels as one encrypted `.veles` file.

## Export

**Export Config** in the Command Center header.

1. **Select Items to Export.** Filter by type (environment groups, environments, configurations, workflows, custom actions), search, tick what you want, or **Select All**.
2. **Set Export Password.** Type it twice. **Exclude secret values from export** is ticked by default; untick it only when the file must carry Masked, Protected and Credential values too.
3. **Export.** The file is `veles_export_<date>_<time>.veles`, encrypted with AES-256 from your password. Keep the password; there is no recovery.

User Setup rows created on this org are included, up to 5,000.

## Import

**Import Config**, pick the `.veles` file, type its password, click **Validate Import**.

The review screen lists **New Records** and **Updated Records**. Environments in the file are matched to existing ones by Salesforce org id; a same-name environment that is a different org is skipped unless you tick **Import into "\<x>" anyway**. An import replaces each environment's full list of groups with the file's.

Click **Confirm Import**. If any part fails, the whole import rolls back and the error says why. Files from versions older than the current export format are refused.
